MOVEMENT

Move your body! Everyday.

There is movement and there is exercise. You can hate exercise and still move your body. If you hate exercise, you should find creative ways to make yourself move.

On a regular basis, you should:

  • Articulate your joints in all possible directions

  • Challenge your muscles with different loads

  • Push your heart to become more efficient

  • Travel forward, backwards and in different directions, and

  • Twist and rotate your body in different planes

This will help ensure your body maintains the mobility it was meant to have.

KEY COMPONENTS OF MOVEMENT

Be sure to incorporate these 3 critical components into your movement or exercise routine

JOINT MOBILITY

Keep joints moving the way they should. Avoid excessively repetitive motions and mix up your routine so your body continues to support all types of bending and turning.  The adage, "if you don't use it, you lose it" is true. Be sure you don't "lose it!"

BALANCE

Balance is what keeps you upright. When something literally knocks you off your stride, your balance is what makes the difference between recovering gracefully and breaking your, um, back-end. Maintaining good balance not only helps you age gracefully, but enables you to stay independent.

STRENGTH

It's a fallacy that you inevitably lose strength as you age. If you look at Aboriginal people or any race that still lives in the wilds of nature, you see older people who are strong, flexible and dexterous. This is because they never stop moving, so they don't experience the tell tale physical decline that we see everyday.

FITNESS COACHING

Get the best out of yourself with personal training

Working with a trainer kicks everything up a notch! You will learn about proper body alignment and how to recognize when you need to make corrections. Build skills in mobility, balance and strength slowly and correctly, so you can make solid strides without risking injury. Work collaboratively to find a routine you enjoy doing and that supports the activities you love to do.
